Triathlons!!!!

What are triathlons?

Triathlons are endurance competitions normally consisting of swimming, cycling, and running, although there are other formats of triathlons. Modern triathlons, in the United States, were first held at Mission Bay, San Diego, California on September 25, 1974. The longest type of triathlon is referred to as the Iron-man Triathlon (first held in Hawaii on February, 18, 1978) which usually include 2.4 miles of swimming, a 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.219 mile run (equivalent to a marathon). The first ever Iron-man was Gordon Haller, a physicist from Forest Grove, Oregon. Triathlons were introduced in as an Olympic Sport in the Sydney Olympic Games held in 2000. The Olympic Distance is commonly composed of a 1,500 meter swim, a 24.9 mile bicycle race, and a 6.2 mile run. One of my goals is to complete a triathlon and I hope that one day I will be able to do so. According to Wikipedia.org, Triathlons are timed in five sequential sections:
  1. from the start of the swim to the beginning of the first transition (swim time);
  2. from the beginning of the first transition to the end of the first transition (T1 time);
  3. from the start of the cycling to the end of the cycling leg (cycling time);
  4. from the beginning of the second transition to the end of the second transition (T2 time);
  5. finally from the start of the run to the end of the run, at which time the triathlon is complete.
